About the programme

The doctoral study program graduate is a specialist for the broad spectrum of animal science and research. The graduate is able to solve all problems in animal morphology, physiology, molecular biology, breeding, zoohygiene etc. He has deep and systematic knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and methods. He is able to develop and apply new methodological procedures. He is an expert able to prepare and implement the entire research process, i.e. to analyze the current state, design his own procedure, including methodology, carry out experiments, process and interpret the results and then publish them. He finds employment in the spheres of science, applications, business, government. The doctoral study program is accredited in Czech, but it is also possible to complete it in English. The foreign applicant for this study program must be able to communicate in English in writing and in words.

How to apply

The Faculty of Agriculture of the University of South Bohemia announces the admission procedure into the doctoral study program usually once a year in the form of an entrance examination, according to § 49 paragraph 5 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions at least four months before the deadline for applications. The date of the exams is determined by the dean of the faculty.
The general conditions of the admission procedure in the doctoral study program are set out in § 48 paragraph 3, § 49 and § 50 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions, in article 34 of the Study and Examination Regulations of the University of South Bohemia and in the Dean's Ordinance - the rules for admission procedures and the conditions of admission to study in doctoral study programs in a given academic year.
A prerequisite condition for admission is the successful completion of the master's program, which is close to the focus of the doctoral program, ie. especially accredited master's programs in the field of agriculture, veterinary medicine, biology, chemistry, food. The condition for admission to the study is also an adequate level of knowledge from professional subjects (zootechnics, nutrition, cell and molecular biology, genetics and breeding, breeding technology) and English language tested during the admission procedure, motivation to actively deepen their knowledge and demonstration of assumptions for independent professional work.
The admission procedure takes the form of a commission examination. Its content is a professional discussion, which on the basis of proof of the candidate's previous creative work, especially his diploma thesis or publications, will allow to assess his prerequisites for independent scientific and research activities. The admission procedure to study at doctoral program can also be completed by the students of the last year of the master's study program; the condition for their admission is the proper completion of the master's degree program.
The specific conditions of the admission procedure are specified annually by the dean´s ordinance, which is always published on the website of the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of South Bohemia.
