About the programme

The PhD. Study programme focuses on a holistic approach to landscape function assessment, which is a potential tool for the integral diagnosis of key landscape functions (i.e. efficient dissipation of solar energy through vegetation, water content in the landscape and minimal water losses). This approach makes it possible to integrate sectorally separate disciplines, such as spatial planning, protected area management, water management, landscaping, together with EU standards (e.g. the European Convention on Landscape Protection, the Water Framework Directive and others). This framework is followed by research directions that deal with the application of knowledge in practice in the field of land management, good agricultural practice, water protection. Other aspects are ecological and ecophysiological aspects of the functioning of important landscape elements as well as the role of important, protected or invasive organisms and activities associated with the practical application of knowledge such as rescue cultivation and transfers of endangered organisms, reclamation projects, projects of joint land management facilities, management impact assessment.

How to apply

The Faculty of Agriculture and Technology of the University of South Bohemia announces the admission procedure into the doctoral study program usually once a year in the form of an entrance examination, according to § 49 paragraph 5 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions at least four months before the deadline for applications. The date of the exams is determined by the dean of the faculty.
The general conditions of the admission procedure in the doctoral study program are set out in § 48 paragraph 3, § 49 and § 50 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions, in article 34 of the Study and Examination Regulations of the University of South Bohemia and in the Dean's Ordinance - the rules for admission procedures and the conditions of admission to study in doctoral study programs in a given academic year.
A prerequisite condition for admission is the successful completion of the master's program, which is close to the focus of the doctoral program. The condition for admission to the study is also an adequate level of knowledge from professional subjects and English language tested during the admission procedure, motivation to actively deepen their knowledge and demonstration of assumptions for independent professional work.
The admission procedure takes the form of a commission examination. Its content is a professional discussion, which on the basis of proof of the candidate's previous creative work, especially his diploma thesis or publications, will allow to assess his prerequisites for independent scientific and research activities. The admission procedure to study at doctoral program can also be completed by the students of the last year of the master's study programme; the condition for their admission is the proper completion of the master's degree programme.
The specific conditions of the admission procedure are specified annually by the dean´s ordinance, which is always published on the website of the Faculty of Agriculture and Technology of the University of South Bohemia.
