Opening of the 32nd year of the Summer School of Slavonic Studies

On Monday, August 12, 2024, the 32nd year of the Summer School of Slavonic Studies was launched at the Faculty of Arts of the University of South Bohemia. As usual, students from various countries of Europe, Asia and North America got to know the organizing team and were then divided into groups according to language levels.


The summer school of Slavonic Studies organized by the Institute of Czech Studies has a long tradition at the Faculty of Arts. This year, a total of 46 students from Germany, Austria, France, Great Britain, Poland, Italy, Ukraine, Slovenia, but also from China, Japan and the USA are participating in the intensive three-week Czech language course (August 11–September 2, 2024). In addition to teaching in Czech and English, expert lectures on literature, art, film and linguistics for advanced students, the participants can expect novelties in the form of selective thematic seminars, in which they will not only expand their vocabulary in the areas of sports, holidays and traditions, politics, poetry, music or gastronomy, but they will also learn interesting facts and important historical and cultural realities. This year's program also includes a guided tour of the city, a visit to the Budvar brewery and Aquaponics greenhouse, excursions to the Jihočeské muzeum and Alšova jihočeská galerie or full-day trips to Český Krumlov and Jindřichův Hradec. Sports and social events are also prepared for the participants.
