University of South Bohemia expands cooperation with the CEZ Group
Today, the University of South Bohemia concluded a cooperation agreement with a major partner in the world of energy - CEZ Group. This cooperation marks a significant milestone for the university, which has become the 100th school with which CEZ cooperates on energy projects.
The new agreement opens up a wide range of opportunities for the University of South Bohemia. Students and academics will have the opportunity for professional excursions, internships and collaboration on research projects. This is particularly important in the context of current CEZ projects.
"Preparations for further nuclear units at Temelin are well underway, but let's not forget about other projects, such as renewable or thermal power sources. All this represents a unique opportunity for South Bohemian students and academics. And I am very glad that they have decided to take advantage of it," explains Tomáš Pleskač, member of the Board of Directors and Director of the New Energy Division.
For the University of South Bohemia, this memorandum means a new impetus for the development of study programmes and research projects. It also opens up further opportunities for graduates to find employment.
"Cooperation with large companies, such as CEZ Group, strengthens the attractiveness of our university and improves the chances of our students for successful employment in practice. We have excellent study programmes in the field of radiology, natural sciences or, for example, public protection, which are also well applicable in nuclear power plants. A number of students are also pursuing topics in the areas of crisis management, environmental issues, security studies and many others," says the Rector of the University of South Bohemia, Pavel Kozák.
Currently, the CEZ Group directly employs over 1,500 employees in the South Bohemian Region in a number of locations, and thousands of other people have found jobs in supplier companies. At the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant, for example, university graduates make up approximately half of all employees.
"Further expansion of cooperation with universities is great. It's about projects in the technical field as well as employment opportunities. In general, most of those who will work in skilled positions in the planned power plants will first go through the existing units. And now is the ideal time to start looking for cooperation," said Bohdan Zronek, member of the Board of Directors and Director of the Nuclear Power Division.
In total, CEZ Group cooperates with 20 universities and 80 high schools and grammar schools. In the South Bohemian Region, this includes the Institute of Technology and Business and secondary schools in České Budějovice, Tábor, Písek, Hluboká nad Vltavou and many other places. Every year, more than 150 students from the South Bohemian Region participate in internships and programmes such as the Nuclear Baccalaureate, Summer University and SMR Camp. CEZ employees also cooperate with schools on bachelor and diploma theses, professional seminars and other events.
The University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice is a modern public university offering education in a wide range of study programmes. At present, 9,000 students study at USB at 8 faculties in more than 200 bachelor, master and doctoral degree programmes. USB is also a top scientific research centre specialising in education and research in the natural sciences, humanities, health and social sciences.
