A unique celebration of science attracted a record number of visitors to the University of South Bohemia

Even the cold and rain did not deter science fans from visiting the University of South Bohemia on Friday evening. 3200 people came to see the magic of transformation, which was the main theme of this year's Night of Scientists. This was the sixth time JU has participated in the Night of Scientists and this year it prepared over 90 programmes at all eight faculties. The theme of transformation ran through all of them - from evolution in nature to revolution in technology.
Just after 5 p.m., when the university opened its gates to the public, crowds of visitors began to form at the various stations. People came to the Kampa Student Club, where the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences had prepared the programme, to try out the transformation of a young body into an old one using a gerontoobleck or to find out their blood type. At the Faculty of Economics, people reminisced as they lined up the logos of big companies as they changed over time. The Faculty of Science offered to transform their own person into one of the famous show business personalities with the help of artificial intelligence. At the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters, visitors could sample fish products and at the Aquaponic Greenhouse, a wonderful illuminated spectacle awaited them with a tour of the hall where scientists combine fish farming and plant cultivation. The Faculty of Agriculture and Technology drew enthusiasts into the microworld of insects. They were able to see its developmental stages in detail and also learned how fungi affect insect life. Visitors of the Faculty of Arts experienced a guided tour of the exhibition "Transformation in the Text". It reminded them of Franz Kafka's relationship to South Bohemia. A large number of science fans also visited our faculties in the city - at the Faculty of Education they were invited to play the role of detectives, using old photographs and maps to unravel the mysteries of the landscape around České Budějovice. The Faculty of Theology showed the transformation through virtual reality and highlighted how helping others transforms our lives.

Many thanks to everyone who prepared Friday's fascinating celebration of science and to all the visitors who came to admire it.
We look forward to seeing you again next year!
