Representatives of European universities have visited the University of South Bohemia

On 19–21 February, the University of South Bohemia hosted a delegation from partner universities involved in the preparation of the KreativEU project within the framework of the European University Erasmus+ initiative.

Rectors, vice-rectors and other representatives of the academic community arrived in the south of the Czech Republic from Portugal, Romania, Italy, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Turkey over the weekend already. On Sunday 19 February, together with representatives of the University of South Bohemia, they visited the villages of Holašovice and Doudleby, where they learned about folk customs, especially the traditional Masopust carol.

On Monday, 20 February, the delegation was officially welcomed by the Rector of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, Prof. Bohumil Jiroušek, PhD. The presentation of the University of South Bohemia and its individual faculties followed, as well as the presentation of the current phase of the preparation of the joint Master's degree programme Heritage – Multidisciplinary approach for better preservation and especially the KreativEU project. 'The KreativEU (Knowledge & Creativity European University) project comprises a unique alliance of universities across Europe, based on a shared vision of the importance of European cultural and artistic diversity as a driving force for cohesion, equality, peace, sustainability and educational, economic, political, social and scientific innovation and development, contributing to the creation of a European university unique in its kind, capable of offering a competitive and attractive European education and research system,' explained the Rector of the University of South Bohemia. The delegation was also introduced to the facilities of archaeology at the Faculty of Arts of the University of South Bohemia and visited Český Krumlov in the evening.

On Tuesday, 21 February, the new Mayor of the Statutory City of České Budějovice, doc. Dr. Ing. Dagmar Škodová Parmová also welcomed the guests. 'Budějovice is a university city and colleagues came to express their support in maintaining common cultural traditions and historical awareness. In the future, we want to be part of a common modern European University that will open the doors to the world for our students. They will gain valuable personal experience with teachers from, for example, Portugal, they can connect with each other via computers, and they can choose their teachers. They will deepen and broaden their knowledge, and in addition to studying, they will also learn about the cultural customs of different countries,' said the Mayor. She also informed those present about Budějovice's candidacy for the European Capital of Culture for 2028, which also links with other areas such as education, science and research. Connections will also be made at the level of partner cities and regions, where networking and cooperation between companies are expected.

The welcome at the town hall was followed by a visit to the Faculty of Education of the University of South Bohemia, which will mark 75 years since its foundation this year. The rich programme concluded with a joint lunch and a tour of Budweiser Budvar.
