The University of South Bohemia commemorated International Holocaust Remembrance Day

27 January is International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice joined the initiative of the Embassy of the State of Israel, which decided to light candles at the stones of the disappeared throughout the Czech Republic. This year marks 80 years since the end of World War II, and the candle lit in České Budějovice is one of 80 symbolically lit throughout the country. The stones of the disappeared in the form of golden paving stones commemorate the deported people who lived in the place across the Czech Republic. The symbolic candle was lit today in U Tří lvů Street, where five stones of the disappeared are set in memory of the family of Jewish doctor and peace activist Emil Flusser.
