USB INNOVATION Awards
On 15 March 2023, the USB INNOVATION award was granted. The main evaluation criteria for this competition are the technical level, innovativeness of the solution, market position, efficiency and societal contribution. The evaluation committee is composed of members of the Commercialisation Board of the University of South Bohemia. A total of 3 applications from 3 faculties of the University of South Bohemia were submitted by the deadline.

Innovation: ENRICHED YOGHURT WITH INCREASED PROTEIN CONTENT AND PLANT ANTIOXIDANTS

It is a yoghurt with an increased protein content and the addition of a fruit component rich in plant antioxidants, especially vitamin C and anthocyanins, which inactivate free radicals and help to reduce so-called lifestyle diseases. This innovation won the 1st prize of the Food Chamber of the Czech Republic in 2022 in the 3rd annual competition in the category Students for Food Quality. In initial meetings with potential buyers, the response to the yoghurt recipe was very positive. Through the company Busyman we were connected to the company Faba Incube and the investor Mr. Martin Cierne.

Title: OVERFLOW TROUGH FOR SPRAYING THE BIOFILTER AND THE SPRAYING BIOFILTER WITH THIS OVERFLOW TROUGH

The overflow trough for the spraying of the biofilter allows the overflow water to be evenly distributed on the upper part of the biofilter with a square ground plan. It is suitable wherever it is not possible to use a Segner wheel to spray water (circular biofilter design). This technical solution has been designed and is used for the experimental RAS located in the building of ZR in České Budějovice (FFPW USB). The UM license can be offered for sale to companies producing small RAS, mainly for experimental or hobby purposes.

The results above are focused on monitoring of bark beetles in the upper levels of trees. The aim is to give forest workers (foresters, forest rangers, field workers) a detailed view of the tree trunk at heights of 3 to 8 metres. In case of infestation, bark marks are visible on the bark only at these levels. The probe has been actively tested for several months by the employees of the Forestry Company of the Czech Republic, especially in the Vimperk, Prague and Č. Budějovice.
Negotiations were held with the company Busy-Man to sell know-how and a working prototype including project and software documentation.
