About the programme

The field of Measuring and Computing Technology is the only purely technical field at the University of South Bohemia. It has a long tradition and is guaranteed by the Department of Physics at the Faculty of Science. It offers interdisciplinary undergraduate studies in electronics, automation, electrical engineering and computer science.

Typical applicants for full-time study are currently graduates of technical secondary schools, mostly electrical.

The purpose of the study is both to acquire and deepen theoretical knowledge in the areas of physical measurement, computer technology, electronics and electrical engineering, and to acquire practical experimental experience and skills in the areas of design, construction and wiring, as well as programming and testing. The selection of compulsory and optional courses, including both theoretical training in the form of lectures and practical exercises in laboratories, serves to fulfil the aim. The Bachelor's thesis is focused and conducted in such a way that its output is, as far as possible, a concrete plan in the form of design and construction of equipment related to the studied problem.

The study is designed so that the graduate of the bachelor's degree obtains the necessary technical education to understand the problems solved in industrial practice as well as in innovative development. The ability to understand processes and algorithms is also an important component, so great attention is paid to deepening knowledge of modern analytical techniques and acquiring practical skills in their implementation.

Thanks to close cooperation with the Department of Computer Science, students have the opportunity to choose from a wide range of courses provided by this institute.

Our graduates are professionally and practically prepared to be employed as a technician with a lower degree. The main objective is professional training for positions as technical and professional staff in technical and development departments or laboratories of industrial plants. The education attained provides the basis for professional adaptability in practice and for further master's studies. Graduates have the possibility of further studies in the Master's programme in Physical Measurement and Modelling at our faculty, or in the Master's programmes of established technical universities across the country.
