About the programme

The follow-up Master's degree programme Management of Regional Development (MRD) builds on the Bachelor's degree programme Management of Regional Development and Tourism. It deepens the students' knowledge in basic theoretical subjects and provides students with a broader knowledge of the core subjects and extends their knowledge in the subjects corresponding to the profiling foundation. The MRD programme introduces students to the issues of the region in a broader context, therefore including not only the spatial economic and social, but it also covers the environmental aspects of regional management and tourism, which is an important activity of the region.

Programme structure

The degree programme is based on the subjects of the profiling basis of the study programme, which subsequently form the state final examination and whose aim is to deepen the already acquired disciplinary knowledge and skills needed for sophisticated implementation of activities, analysis, preparation of documents and decision-making in the field of regional development with the ability to be aware of the broader context and to take into account the broader framework of regional development at different levels. These include the subjects Microeconomics II and Macroeconomics II, Regional Development Theory (basic theoretical subjects of a profiling foundation), as well as the subjects, Regional Economics 2, Regional Management 2 and Environmental Economics. These profiling subjects are complemented by subjects that deal with a number of aspects of practical relevance to regional development management, namely Regional Statistics, Soft Factors of Regional Development, Regional Planning, Geographical Information Systems 2, Spatial Planning, Public Finance 2, Urban and Municipal Management, Innovation Processes for SMART Regions.

Graduate profile

    The study prepares professionally methodologically and practically equipped graduates capable of independent decision-making in regional development issues. Graduates of the follow-up degree programme Regional Development Management will acquire methodological and practical competencies for the performance of qualified professions at the regional level as well as at the national and international level in institutions of local government, state administration, non-profit organisations and in the bodies of the European Union, possibly also in institutions focused on tourism.

  • Students have the option of double profiling in the form of an optional state exam, namely Environmental Management, focusing on environmental aspects of regional development, with subjects of block A1 Environmental Management, Bioeconomics, Brownfields in economic contexts, and Tourism, taking into account the interaction of regional development and tourism, with subjects of block A2 Tourism Management, International Tourism and Sustainable Tourism. Students are obliged to choose one of these blocks of courses.
