About the programme

The study programme Smart Agriculture and technology aims at providing complex and systematic knowledge and skills in the application of modern computer science methods which are crucial for further development in this field - application of artificial intelligence, application of electronics and automation in agricultural production, application of computer simulations for projecting and optimisation of technical solutions for plant and animal production.
The content of the study is conceptualized to reflect the professional orientation of the study programme and to fully reflect the trends of intensive concurrence of electronics and automation in agricultural and food processing workplaces applying the concepts of Industry 4.0. These are partly or fully automated technological systems for controlling the operations in a business, milking robots, automated systems for navigating machines in fieldwork, introduction of autonomous robots applicable in plant production, introduction of new technologies in food processing industry, principles of precision agriculture etc.

How to apply

The Faculty of Agriculture and Technology of the USB opens the admission procedure in PhD study programmes once a year in the form of an admission exam according to sec. 49 of the Higher Education Act at least four months before the termination of filing applications. General conditions of the admission procedure for PhD study programmes are provided for by sec. 48, art. 3, sec. 49 and sec. 50 of the Higher Education Act and further art. 34 of the Study and Examination Regulations of the USB. The rules of the admission procedure and conditions of admission in PhD study programme for the respective academic year are announced by the Ordinance of the Dean of the Faculty.

To be eligible for a PhD study programme the applicant must successfully graduate from a master's study programme the orientation of which corresponds or is close to the PhD study programme.

In the course of the admission procedure, the applicant passes an admission examination, consisting of a scholarly discussion on the topic of the dissertation chosen by the applicant from the list of dissertation topics offered for the respective academic year. The admission committee shall consider the qualifications of the applicant for an independent scientific and research activity.
