Application step by step
If you are interested in spending one or two semesters as an exchange student at the University of South Bohemia (USB), please, follow the next steps:
1. Contact your home institution's International Office
In order to study as an exchange student, your home institution must have an agreement signed with the University of South Bohemia. This can be either an Inter-Institutionnal Agreement (Erasmus+ programme) or a bilateral agreement. Please check with your International Office or Erasmus+ coordinator. Then follow the selection process at your home institution. If you are chosen, you will then be nominated by your home institution (see step 2).
If you plan to participate in some specific programme such as CEEPUS, Visegrad fund or AKTION, check the specific conditions on the respective websites.
If you want to come to USB as a freemover student (i.e. if your home institution is not our partner university), in any case you must be first accepted as a student by one of our faculty. Please, send your request to the International Relations Office of the concrete faculty at which you wish to study.
2. Nomination
Once you are chosen by your home institution, your home Erasmus+ coordinator or International office must send us an official nomination.
The official nomination must be sent by email to
The email should include the following information:
- First name and surname of the student
- Date of birth
- Email address
- Study field (according to the agreement)
- Level of study (Bachelor's, Master's, Doctoral)
- Period of mobility (Winter/Summer semester or the whole academic year)
Nomination deadlines
- Winter semester: before 30 April
- Summer semester: before 31 October
3. Online application
After the reception of your nomination, you will receive a first information email from the Erasmus+ coordinator of the USB faculty at which you were nominated and where you will be registered as a student. The email will include the link for the online application in our internal system (STAG system).
During the online application, you can also apply for accommodation at USB dormitories.
If you need a visa for your stay in the Czech Republic, begin the visa procedure as soon as possible. See information here > Practical information > Immigration & visa information
Application deadlines
- Winter semester: before 15th May
- Summer semester: before 15th November
4. Application documents
Follow the instructions of the USB Erasmus+ Faculty coordinator carefully and send the requested application documents. If your faculty has set its own supplementary requirements within the application procedure, you will be informed about it by the faculty coordinator.
If you come through the Erasmus+ programme, you will have to fill in your Learning agreement (LA). It is a basic document of Erasmus+ mobility that ensures recognition of the period of studies abroad by your home institution. The LA includes a list of courses that must be approved and signed by all three parties (student, home institution, host institution).
Here is the basic information you need to fill in:
- Name of host institution: UNIVERSITY of SOUTH BOHEMIA in ČESKÉ BUDĚJOVICE
- Erasmus code: CZ CESKE01
- Faculty: Fill in the name of the USB faculty at which you will study
- Address: Branišovská 31a, České Budějovice, Czech Republic
5. Acceptance letter
After the application has been submitted and completed, your USB Faculty coordinator will send you an acceptance letter.
If you need a visa for your stay in the Czech Republic, you will need this document earlier for your visa application. In that case, please notify to your USB faculty coordinator who will send you the letter in the original (by post) and in the Czech language as soon as possible.
Before your arrival, you will receive several information emails with practical and important information concerning your arrival, the Orientation week, the buddy system (ESN USB Budweis), etc. from the Welcome Officer of the International Relations Office.
