On Thursday 16 June, the first sports events began and took place across České Budějovice. Athletes competed in seven sports throughout the day and the first medals were awarded. Several athletes can now boast the title of Academic Champion for 2022.
Contests in various athletic disciplines were held at the athletics stadium on Sokol Island throughout the day, with Charles University being the most successful in both the men's and women's disciplines. Not far from the athletics stadium, swimming and finswimming contests were held at the municipal swimming centre. The finswimming event was dominated by the Brno University of Technology, the female athletes and the mixed team brought the most points to Palacký University in Olomouc. The swimming contests will continue on Friday 17 June, but on Thursday the athletes from the Brno University of Technology, the female athletes from Masaryk University and the mixed team, were the most successful and Charles University and Palacký University in Olomouc shared the first place.
Thursday was also a day of table tennis matches. The representatives of the VSB – Technical University of Ostrava did very well by scoring the most points among the men's and mixed teams. However, the women's teams brought the most points to the Silesian University in Opava. On the outskirts of the city, in the aquatic centre, water slalom and sprint took place. The results were very close, but the Czech Technical University took first place among the representatives of the women's and men's teams. The day (16/6) was also the first day of futsal matches and judo bouts. We hope that the sports contests will no longer be accompanied by stormy weather and that all athletes will do well.
