FSC USB is launching a unique degree programme in Teacher Training in Science for Secondary Schools
The Faculty of Science of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice (FSC USB) is the first in the Czech Republic to open a two-year Master's degree programme in Teacher Training in Science for Secondary Schools. This degree programme is the first professional and practically oriented (i.e. non-academic) programme for the education of future teachers.
Teacher Training in Science for Secondary Schools reflects the new concept of education and offers a unique opportunity to be involved in the formation of future teachers. 'Graduates of undergraduate education programmes, as well as graduates of undergraduate vocational programmes, thus have the opportunity to become qualified science teachers and contribute to reducing the shortage of quality and qualified secondary school teachers,' says doc. RNDr. Ing. Jana Kalová, Ph.D., guarantor of the degree programme.
Given the large number of compulsory elective courses, students can prepare their studies to a large extent on their own, choosing individual subjects according to their preference or with the help of a tutor from FSC USB. The didactic courses are to a large extent provided by active secondary school teachers who cooperate with FSC USB and are a great support in the preparation of future secondary school teachers. Already during their studies, students can form a strong bond with practice.
Graduates of the Teacher Training in Science for Secondary Schools programme will find employment, especially as teachers of science courses. They will have exceptional competencies to ensure the preparation and teaching of subjects focused on the integration of science knowledge. 'But graduates will also be able to teach a specific science discipline, e.g. according to their single- or double-discipline Bachelor's degree,' adds Associate Professor Kalová.
Candidates can apply for the new Teacher Training in Science for Secondary Schools program, which was developed in collaboration with principals, secondary school teachers and student teachers, until 19 May 2024.
