Michaela Fencková from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at the USB Faculty of Science received the L´Oreal Award for Women in Science

This year's 17th edition of the L'Oréal-UNESCO Talent Programme for Women in Science has its winners. The three female scientists who impressed the jury the most with their projects will receive a prize of 200 000 CZK and publicity for their work:

  • Pavla Eliášová – focuses on the development of new materials, catalysts, which will be effective even without the presence of precious metals and will enable the conversion of CO2 into so-called solar fuels using only solar irradiance.
  • Michaela Fencková (FSC USB) – uses the fruit fly to study genes and their defects that contribute to neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism and intellectual disability.
  • Veronika Vymetálková – seeks to detect markers in the blood of patients with colorectal cancer that could predict cancer recurrence or resistance to treatment.
