Opening of the exhibition Pernštejn Women and Europe

The Faculty of Arts of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice inaugurated a touring exhibition entitled Pernštejn Women and Europe. The exhibition, presenting how the women of the modern nobility contributed to the formation of European cultural identity, using the example of the Pernštejn women, will run until 5 April 2023.

On Wednesday 15 March 2023, the Institute of History and the Institute of Romance Studies of the Faculty of Arts of the University of South Bohemia inaugurated the opening of the exhibition Pernštejn Women and Europe. The touring exhibition of the East Bohemian Museum in Pardubice was created in cooperation with the University of Pardubice and is part of the programme of the Pernštejn Year commemorating 500 years of the Renaissance in Bohemia. Its authors doc. Mgr. Pavel Marek, Ph.D., Director of the Institute of Historical Sciences, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Pardubice, and Mgr. Tomáš Libánek, Director of the East Bohemian Museum in Pardubice, show how the noble women of the modern era contributed to the formation of European cultural identity, using the example of the Pernštejn family, which is inseparably linked to the Pardubice castle. The basis for the exhibition design was the book by Associate Professor Pavel Marek Pernštejnské ženy.

The official introduction of the exhibition in the presence of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts of the University of South Bohemia, Professor Ondřej Pešek, the Director of the Historical Institute of the Faculty of Arts of the University of South Bohemia, Professor Václav Bůžek, and the Director of the Institute of Historical Sciences of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Pardubice, Associate Professor Pavel Marek, was accompanied by music performed by a student of the Faculty of Arts of the University of South Bohemia, Bc. Monika Benáková, who played the lute and baroque guitar. The opening was followed by a lecture by associate professor Pavel Marek entitled FORMING POWER NETWORKS IN THE ENVIRONMENT OF EARLY MODERN SCHOLARSHIP. PERNŠTEJN AND NAPLES.
