Representatives of the USB management paid tribute to the victims of the Holocaust

On Thursday, 28 April 2022, representatives of the management of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, headed by the Rector, Prof. Bohumil Jirousek, PhD, attended a commemoration of 80 years since the AKB transport and honoured the memory of those who never returned home from the Nazi concentration camps, as well as those who, like many, survived and bore the indescribable pain and scars of the horrors they witnessed throughout their lives. This act of remembrance was organised by the Memory of Nations South Bohemia on Holocaust Remembrance Day (28 April) at the site of the former synagogue in České Budějovice.

On 18 April 1942, 910 people were taken from České Budějovice on the AKB transport. 877 of them did not live to see the end of the Second World War. The programme included short speeches and a public prayer by the Chief Rabbi of Prague, David Peter.
Afterwards, in memory of the 910 South Bohemian Jews who were forced to leave on the AKB transport, their names were publicly read out and 910 stones were placed under a sculpture of a menorah.
