Social Agriculture Conference – 10 years in the Czech Republic

On 23 and 24 August 2023, a two-day conference was held to mark 10 years of systematic development of social agriculture in the Czech Republic. On the first day, ten foreign speakers divided into three discussion panels were presented in the building of the Ministry of Agriculture. The conference was also attended by the Minister of Agriculture Marek Výborný and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Czech Republic and Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Marian Jurečka, who spoke in the opening session, together with the representative of DG AGRI Matyás Szabó, who presented current European policies building on the concept of social agriculture and opportunities within European project calls, especially within the Horizon programme. In the next item on the agenda, doc. Moudrý from the Faculty of Agriculture and Technology of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, who is also the Chairman of the Board of the Social Agriculture Association, presented a summary of the development of social agriculture over the past ten years, including the development of education in this field at the faculty.

The following day, the conference took the form of a workshop and discussion panel at the Země živitelka exhibition, where social agriculture has its own exhibition. The participants were supported by the Prime Minister Petr Fiala, accompanied by the President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Miloš Vystrčil, the Minister of Agriculture of the Czech Republic Marek Výborný and the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Slovak Republic Jozef Bíres. The workshop addressed the sustainability of social farms and the implementation of the concept of social farming as a tool for diversification of farm activities. In parallel, the establishment of a European network of scientists and university educators working on social farming was discussed.

On Friday, 25 August 2023, a press conference was followed by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Czech Republic and Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Marian Jurečka, who, together with the Chairman of the Working Commission for Social Agriculture (MA) Jiří Netík and Ondřej Závodský from the Department of Social Integration (MLSA), presented the current state and vision of social agriculture to media representatives.
