Success in the Chutná hezky. Jihočesky competition

As in previous years, the food products competition ‘Chutná hezky. Jihočesky’ was also held this year. One of the competition categories was beers with a production of up to 10 thousand hl/year. In this category, our academic beer ČTYRÁK 14° – Strong dark lager also took part.

In the conventionally numerous category (South Bohemia belongs to very strong brewing regions, which is due, among other things, to history and the tradition of the brewing law is reflected in a great interest in the production and, of course, consumption of various types of beer), the beer from the Research and Educational Microbrewery of the Faculty of Agriculture and Technology of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice was very successful and the expert jury awarded it 1st place in the category. During the award ceremony, which took place at the Czech Food Expo at the České Budějovice Exhibition Centre on 12 May 2023, the Research and Eduational Microbrewery was selected as one of the winners and received financial support for marketing promotion of the product in the media.

We would like to thank our brewers - Libor Smutek and Vlastimil Nohejl, who brought the recipe to this great success by the brewery saying ‘May God grant luck and joy’.

Research and Eduational Microbrewery FAT USB

Research and Eduational Microbrewery FAT USB was established in 2006 in the place of the purpose-built facility of FAT USB. Its main goal is not only to supply the surrounding area with academic beer, but especially to work in the field of research and education in the field of brewing. The brewery is also used for research activities by the national enterprise Budějovický Budvar; for example, this year Budvar prepared its limited summer beer in cooperation with the Clock Brewery. In order to spread awareness in the field of brewing, we offer courses for the public as part of lifelong learning, in which you can learn to brew beer with professional technologies, as well as techniques to brew beer at home. Last but not least, there is also a course, after completing which you will receive a certificate of full professional qualification, upon presentation of which you can apply for a trade certificate in the field of brewer-malt brewer, which allows you to run or build a microbrewery.
