University of South Bohemia has a strong presence in global crayfish research

The Rector of the University of South Bohemia Pavel Kozák has been re-elected to the International Astacological Association's top leadership and will most likely be appointed its president in 2026. At the International Astacological Conference in Zagreb, Croatia, the University of South Bohemia was represented by a five-member team of scientists from the Laboratory of Freshwater Ecosystems of the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters of the University of South Bohemia. The election of Pavel Kozák to the head of this world scientific organization only confirmed the excellent scientific reputation of the faculty in the field of research on these crustaceans. In addition to the scientific part, the conference program also included a visit to the Plitvice Lakes National Park, which is home to a number of critically endangered species, including populations of the river crayfish and the stone crayfish.
