Visit of the French Ambassador to USB on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the French Alliance
On Thursday 28 November 2024, a delegation from the Embassy of France in the Czech Republic and the French Institute in Prague, led by H.E. Ambassador Stéphane Crouzat, visited the University of South Bohemia. This was on the occasion of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the registered association Alliance française South Bohemia (AF), which is historically and currently closely linked to the Institute of Romance Studies of our Faculty of Arts.
The large French delegation was welcomed at the USB by the Rector Prof. Pavel Kozák and the Vice-Rector doc. Vladimír Žlábek, who subsequently introduced the entire university, and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, prof. Ondřej Pešek, the first ever chairman of the AF, who introduced the faculty under his leadership. This is where most of the cooperation activities with France take place, especially the double diplomas with the University of South Brittany, the University of Paris Cité and the University of Lorraine.
After the reception, which was also attended by representatives of the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Science, the Ambassador gave a lecture on French-Czech relations. Then he had an informal talk with the representatives of the Institute of Romance Studies, headed by the Director Prof. Jan Radimský, on the topic of teaching the French language in the Czech Republic in general and at the USB Faculty of Arts in particular.
The warm atmosphere accompanied the French delegation for the rest of their visit to České Budějovice during the celebration of the anniversary of the AF, which took place in the presence of the mayor of the city doc. Dagmar Škodová Parmová in the South Bohemian Scientific Library. The whole evening was brilliantly guided and interpreted by another member of the Institute of Romance Studies, Dr. Kateřina Drsková. As Dr. Ivo Petrů, the current chairman of the AF and head of the French section of the Institute of Romance Studies, said in his speech, we wish the AF at least another twenty years of successful existence!
